Piece and Comparison: Anime Drawing

I drew an Anime! Well, I copied an original anime from google and I'm here to show you the comparison between mine and the original.

So yesterday I wanted to draw, but I had no ideas. So I got this anime from google images that looked realllyyy cool, but not too impossible for me to copy. It was a bit easier to draw than real manga, since it was a charcoal drawn anime and not computer made. So, I got really sucked into this drawing and it came out pretty successfully!

My version
That is my Anime! I worked 4 hours on it (Whew!) and it was pretty hard. Especially since I didn't have charcoal. I'm thinking about buying it and learning how to use it. I mean, you can't just use it like pencil. I've had charcoal before and it gets all over your fingers and makes a huge mess. I mean, if I can't even stop myself from getting pencil splotches all over my fingers (and paper) I don't think I'll be ready to withstand the mess charcoal will create, not just yet. Anyway, the hardest part was the eyes, I must admit. The eyes in the original look more natural and it's hard to get those strokes the original artist did. I don't think I did such a bad job though. I'm actually sort of proud :)

(Except for the fact that I didn't come up with the idea myself. But my dad said I shouldn't be discouraged by the fact that I copied an original, because it's the only way a growing drawer can learn, by following the footsteps of others :] )

Here is the original! Okay, I put it at the bottom because if I put them side to side it makes mine look kind of bad LOL XD
Original Version
You can see that in the original, there is a sort of pattern in back layer, but I was so engrossed in doing the actual face that I had never really bothered noticing the pattern. Besides the pattern, you might notice that the Original's face is a bit bent forward, or tilted as you may say. That's something I could improve on, drawing correct angles etc. Well, I'd like to give credit to who made the original Anime and say that he/she's a great Artist :)

  2. Actually, I think your version is just as good as the original -- it is subtle and well executed! Your Dad is right -- you need to copy different styles and techniques for the practice -- before you can develop your own style. great work!
